Congrats! You’ve landed yourself a virtual internship. However, navigating from here can be tricky. This is especially true when nerves are building! Here at SuperInterns.com, we’ve compiled a list of ways you can make sure you start off on the right foot.
1. KNOW YOUR FACTS FOR YOUR VIRTUAL INTERNSHIP
There’s nothing worse than becoming involved with a company you can’t stand behind. If you feel unsure about their credibility or ideas, don’t be afraid to ask questions! Researching their brand is a good idea as well.
Moreover, you should have a grasp on the virtual internship details before starting. Spend some time scrolling through their website and look over the position details. What exactly will you be doing? What is expected of you? Being prepared leads to a great first impression.
2. INTERVIEW READY
Often, supervisors will ask to have a meeting with new interns when they start. This is key: One short conversation will form their lasting idea of you. Be confident! As mentioned before, it is crucial to have an understanding of the company going in. Many supervisors actually expect this already!
Be prepared. Think of answers to questions you will most likely be asked, such as your aspirations as an intern and why you chose the company. Knowing the brand’s mission is definitely a plus as well. Also, make sure you are on time and have, to some degree, already educated yourself about the internship. And remember, don’t stress yourself out! This is a learning experience. You already got the internship. Now, it’s time for you to get to work.
3. BE A TEAM PLAYER
Obviously, different internships have different dynamics. It’s important that you present yourself as friendly and supportive, though. Showing that you work well with others from day one is a great way to get opportunities from the start.
See what you can do! Asking if someone wants help or if there’s anything you can do doesn’t only make their lives easier, but it can help you meet new people.
At the end of the day, the workforce is very competitive. Don’t take your status as an intern for granted! Make the most of it and start interning today.
